Hosts: Alexandra Pode
How can you be even more involved as a parent in the interaction with your child?
How can you stimulate your child’s creativity and imagination?
How can you at the same time support single mothers to raise their children independently?
We will explore answers together throw-out this evening with ACSIS as a guest, discovering more about the realities of a social enterprise initiative for creating textile toys, made by single mothers.
Beyond the presentation we will have of the ACSIS creation workshop, we are all invited to practice our own creativity and capacity to innovate, by working with them on 2 main topics:
- How can they diversify the products in the creation workshop? What else can be created by these mothers, give their ability to work with textiles?
- What are some creative strategies to both raise their sales to families and children and also encourage quality relationships parent-children?
About the ACSIS Creative Workshop
The project aims to develop a social enterprise where low qualified single mothers facing the risk of abandoning their children obtain tailoring skills, learn to be responsible towards their work and find a job receiving proper social support.
Objectives:
- To support socially disfavored mothers in assuming work responsibilities and achieving the necessary skills to obtain a job in a profit environment.
- To offer a training and adapted work environment for single mothers in social difficulty.
- To offer jobs for single mothers in risk of separation of their child.
Activities:
- textile toys training for the beneficiaries provided by a Tailoring Instructor,
- part-time jobs for two mothers in the social enterprise,
- manufacturing textile toys (puppets),
- interactive theatre shows in kindergartens for promoting and selling the textile toys,
- individualized psychological and social assistance for single mothers facing the risk of abandoning their children.
About ACSIS
ACSIS is a young but ambitious team which was formed in 2004 and which supports children and their families. There are many children living in the streets and many others who risk ending up in the streets, abandoned by their families.
The idea originated from the „Preventing Child Abandonment” project (2000-2003) of the Swiss foundation Terre des Hommes Lausanne, which assisted mothers who were faced with the risk of abandoning their children.
A part of these mothers believed that the help they received during a very difficult period of their lives was truly significant, a fact which determined them to offer their support to other mothers in similar situations.
ACSIS vision
- every child benefits from care that is appropriate to their needs
- every parent or future parent has proper knowledge about child care, about the importance of different psychological factors in the development and education of children
- every parent in a difficult situation benefits from professional support in raising and caring for their children
